Discovering Art Thrift
Surrounded by acyclic paint and paint brushes, Ashley’s son works on his iPad creating his own art. Canvas, wood, and fabric outfit the studio space where Ashley creates her works of art leveraging different mediums. ‘My creativity is driven by moments in life- like a diary!’ Ashley exclaims. She feels purposeful and inspired when she meets other creatives, which is why she keeps her calendar full with gallery shows all over the US. As we transition through her studio space, Ashley pulls out a suitcase filled with thrifted apparel that she’s transformed into art, ‘I was attracted to sustainability, and being intentional with things I paint on.’ She went on to describe her love of streetwear culture and that also being a main driver of inspiration for her Art Thrift Collection. ‘I try to find pieces that feel nostalgic’ Ashley mentioned as she showed me an army fatigue jacket with rapper Ol’ Dirty Bastard painted on it. Although she usually paints on canvas or paper, Ashley said she’s open to painting on other mediums but not a muralist and lets her creativity guide her through moments of inspiration. When speaking to the future of art and digitization, Ashley mentioned starting to dabble in NFTs as jpegs and video. ‘Although NFTs and metaverse art spaces are the future I hope I can continue to leverage both mediums to buyers that love IRL and digital art.’ Ashley detailed optimistically.
